All AHEC revenue is reinvested back into the collective campus. While AHEC is funded in part through a state reappropriation passed through its partnering institutions, these funds do not meet the full budgetary needs to keep the campus functioning properly. The campus conditions we have today are a direct correlation with our funding model and capabilities.

Like many state-operated organizations and public education centers, costs continue to increase, which requires AHEC to seek creative/alternative solutions to close its funding gap to maintain a certain standard for the campus. It’s critical to avoid putting undue costs on students, therefore we need to diversify our revenue opportunities.

Numbers at-a-glance:

  • 70% of AHEC employees are classified State employees, meaning:
    • State employees make on average 8% less than market-average salaries. On average their salaries are around $50k annually.
  • While we served approximately the same number of students in 2023 as in 2019, our number of full-time employees has decreased.
  • ACPD has fewer officers on staff than in 2019, while crime has increased by 32%.

By creating a master plan, we’re reexamining ways to increase funding streams while enhancing the campus for our internal and external communities.
